Should Tottenham Hotspur have signed Maxwel Cornet when they had the chance?

If Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino was watching Manchester City on Tuesday, he might’ve been doing so through the cracks in his fingers.
The Premier League champions were held to a 2-2 draw away to Lyon in the Champions League last night.
One big reason for that was the performance of Maxwel Cornet, who scored twice for the French side during what was an exceptional individual display.
The 22-year-old Ivorian has now dazzled twice against Pep Guardiola’s side this season, and the Tottenham manager might be regretting that he didn’t sign him.
According to The Mirror, Spurs were keen on signing the jet-heeled winger last January, when his release clause was a modest £7 million.
But there’s no way that he’s leaving Lyon for that amount now, having excelled on such a big stage, against such a big team, on two occassions now.
Cornet seems like he might be destined for big things and Tottenham could and probably should be cursing their refusal to get him earlier this year.
Pochettino did wind up signing a winger in the form of Lucas Moura, but if they rated Cornet and believed in his potential then maybe, just maybe, the £7 million would’ve represented a worthwhile investment.
