Tottenham must challenge Liverpool for Angel Correa.

Liverpool this week have been linked with a spectacular move for Atletico Madrid attacker Angel Correa.

Footmercato report the Reds are willing to offer the Argentine a four-year deal, but Premier League competitors Tottenham may just be a better option for the 22-year-old.

Correa made only 12 of his 40 Atletico appearances as a starter last season, and a move to a club where he may spend more time on the bench would not be a smart move.

At Liverpool that would be a real risk, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah superb wing options.

Tottenham are not blessed with equal talents, and have been fruitlessly searching for a top quality winger for the past two seasons.

Correa could fill that role, and he can also play up front, doing so last season for Atletico when called upon.

This would give Spurs another useful option in the case of an injury to Harry Kane, with deputy Vincent Janssen yet to prove himself.

Even in his limited starts last season, Correa managed to provide eight assists, chipping in with four goals.

Correa is good enough to force his way into Liverpool’s team if he moved to Anfield, but he might find a clearer path at Spurs, and the chance to work under compatriot Mauricio Pochettino could be tempting.

If Tottenham needed any convincing of Correa’s talent – the fact he was chosen to replace Lionel Messi as a starter for Argentina earlier this year instead of Sergio Aguero should say it all, and at just 22 he has a chance to develop into a huge star.
