Spurs ran out 3-2 winners over Ajax in their Champions League semi-final second leg in Amsterdam to reach the final 3-3 on away goals.

Just when you thought the football gods had already used up their quota of football madness this week, Tottenham Hotspur go on to make it three days in a row with their exhilarating win over Ajax to reach the Champions League final.
Monday gave us Vincent Kompany’s “Aguero” moment, the centre-back smashing home a long-range pearler to beat Leicester; Tuesday gave us a depleted Liverpool thrashing Barcelona 4-0; but come half time at the Johan Crujiff ArenA on Wednesday night, that seemingly looked like the end of it.
Trailing 1-0 from the first leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Matthijs de Ligt’s goal on five minutes and Hakim Ziyech’s 35th-minute contribution surely killed off Spurs’ hopes of making the final.
Not quite.
Lucas Moura scored twice within five minutes in the second half and it was very much game on, though as the game went into injury time and then past the minimum five minutes, surely that would be the end of it.

And then along comes Moura once again, his curling effort triggering delirium amongst the Tottenham contingent and on social media, where pretty much everyone with the merest interest in football had their say.
Amongst the tweeters was Spurs legend Luka Modric, now at Real Madrid:
Fellow Tottenham icon Gary Lineker:
And Peter Crouch, who played for both Spurs and Liverpool (with some jokingly dubbing the game the “Peter Crouch final“):
With Thursday’s Europa League semi-final second legs, in which Chelsea and Arsenal will hope to make the final, and then the small matter of the Premier League final day on Sunday with just one point between Liverpool and Man City, there could yet be more twists and turns and drama this week.
