Everton reported to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of the Brazilian ace.

According to a report from the Guardian, Tottenham were put off making a move for free agent Bernard due to his £200,000 per week wage demands, and the Brazilian’s eventual move to Everton will be another kick in the teeth for Mauricio Pochettino.
Spurs are still yet to bring in a new signing this summer, whilst all of the clubs in and around them in the table are spending lavishly.
There is a real danger that Pochettino’s side will get left behind this season, if Poch isn’t backed sufficiently in the transfer market, and with just two days remaining now until the transfer window slams shut, the Argentine had better get down to business soon.
One area where the Argentine will undoubtedly be looking to strengthen is his attacking department, with more competition required for the likes of Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura.
Bernard would have been the ideal addition for Tottenham, especially considering the fact that he was available on a free transfer, and missing out on him to Everton will be a real bitter pill to swallow for Pochettino.

Spurs are notorious for doing their business extremely late on in the transfer window, with Daniel Levy being well-renowned for his hard-nosed negotiating skills.
If Tottenham fail to bring anyone in to the club before midnight on August 9th, however, there will be many Spurs fans questioning the direction that their club is heading.
