Tottenham missing out on Ademola Lookman should tempt Spurs to monitor Charlton starlet Tariqe Fosu

Tottenham Hotspur wanted Ademola Lookman before he went to Everton, so perhaps another Charlton Athletic youngster should be catching their eye.

A recent report from the Daily Mirror suggested that Tottenham remain keen on Ademola Lookman nine months after he decided to ignore Spurs’ interest and join Everton from Charlton for £11 million.

Given Lookman’s potential, it would hardly be a surprise if Tottenham had to offer significantly more than the eight-figure amount that saw him swap The Valley for Goodison Park in January if they want to complete a deal, which may perhaps leave the side frustrated that they did not manage to land him while he was with the Addicks.

So perhaps Lookman’s situation should tempt Tottenham to keep a keen eye on one of the players currently making a major impact for the forward’s old club.

Tariqe Fosu has made a brilliant start to life with the League One side since arriving in the summer, and gave a fantastic indication of the quality he may possess in Charlton’s win away at Fleetwood at the weekend.

The 21-year-old – who had scored twice this season going into the game – scored the perfect hat-trick to inspire Karl Robinson’s men to a 3-1 victory, demonstrating plenty of versatility with each strike.

After a close-range header, his second and third goals showed that he boasts plenty of ability and skill, managing to create openings for himself whether he was marked tightly or when he was running at the defence from deep. Of course, the fact that he scored with both feet should also be encouraging.

It is too soon to suggest that the winger is definitely going to be one for the future, but perhaps Tottenham should keep a keen eye on Charlton’s fortunes in the hope that Fosu’s recent form is a sign of things to come.

And with the Addicks boasting several prospects who look destined to play at a higher level, Spurs may find others who look like they could follow in Lookman’s footsteps and play in the top flight in the future.
