Tottenham missed chance to sign £50m rated star Ryan Sessegnon for just £2m

Tottenham are keen on Ryan Sessegnon but are set to be priced out.

Tottenham Hotspur have failed in an approach to sign Ryan Sessegnon, with The Mirror reporting a £25 million bid has been rejected by Fulham.

Sessegnon made his debut for Fulham last season at just 16, scoring a brace against Newcastle from left-back.

Now a report in The Times claims Fulham value Sessegnon at a staggering £50 million, enough to put off Tottenham and his other suitors which also include Manchester United.

But this rapidly rising valuation was avoidable for Spurs, if they pushed their interest earlier.

The Telegraph reported in early June that if Sessegnon could be persuaded to sign, he would cost Tottenham just £2 million in training compensation.

He later signed his first professional deal with Fulham at the end of June, penning a three year contract.

Sessegnon was tipped to join Spurs earlier in the transfer window, but they could not make their case strongly enough.

With Danny Rose and Ben Davies first and second in the pecking order, it is perhaps little surprise that the 17-year-old chose a club where he is assured of currently playing regular football.

Sessegnon can’t be blamed for wanting to repay Fulham by signing a professional deal with them, but if Tottenham had been a lot more proactive this summer and not left their business until August, the move could have been a lot easier.
