Tottenham Hotspur could yet net a bargain French winger despite missing out on one.

Tottenham Hotspur have missed out on Monaco winger Allan Saint-Maximin who has signed for Nice.

French broadcaster TF1 reported earlier this summer that Spurs were tracking the prospect, who spent last season on loan at Bastia.

Saint-Maximin is a France under-20 international who is hoping to become a key part of the Nice squad. FourFourTwo reported the deal.

The transfer could have a positive impact for Tottenham, if it pushes Vincent Marcel closer to the exit door.

ESPN reported that Marcel was a target for Spurs back in June, with the winger said to have caught the eye of Tottenham’s scouts.

He scored a crucial goal last week in their Champions League qualification round victory over Ajax, but they face a very tricky tie against Napoli to make the group stages.

It may mean waiting until late in the transfer window, but Tottenham could yet swoop late especially if Nice are eliminated.

Their move for winger Saint-Maximin could make them even more open to a a tempting bid for Marcel.
