£43 million-rated centre-back Milan Skriniar is desperate to stay at Serie A champions Inter Milan and will resist Fabio Paratici’s attempts to bring him to Tottenham Hotspur, as reported by Calciomercato.
Not so long ago, there were genuine fears the Inter side that secured its first Scudetto triumph since the days of a salt-and-pepper Jose Mourinho would be forced to sell the crown jewels to save the kingdom.
The club’s Chinese owners found themselves in a perilous financial position with reports suggesting Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez, Stefan de Vrij and others might have to be sacrificed for the greater good.
Now, with just six weeks left in the transfer window, those fears have been eased.
Will Tottenham miss out on Milan Skriniar again?
The £60 million sale of Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint-Germain provided a welcome boost to Inter’s threadbare coffers, all the while ensuring the majority of Simone Inzaghi’s squad will remain intact as Inter look to defend their crown in the face of renewed competition from Milan, Roma, Napoli and Max Allegri’s Juventus.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Tottenham have launched another approach for Slovakia international Skriniar – the £43 million-rated defensive powerhouse Jose Mourinho was desperate to sign for Spurs in summer 2020.
Paratici, Spurs’ new director of football, is a big fan of the former Sampdoria man.
Skriniar, however, has no interest in seeking a move away from the San Siro, with Calciomercato claiming he’s not considering Tottenham’s offer as things stand.
It’s not as though Spurs can put Champions League football on the table either, having finished seventh in England’s top flight during a miserable 2020/21.
The London giants also hit a brick wall in attempts to sign Sevilla’s France international Jules Kounde (Marca).
If Paratici was under any illusions about the size of task he faces at Tottenham, it must have become clear how difficult his task is without the lure of Champions League football.
