Paul Merson told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (13/03/21 at 2:35 pm) that Liverpool ‘still have a chance’ of finishing in the top-four.

Liverpool are sitting back and letting the action all unfold over the weekend, with Chelsea dropping points at Leeds on Saturday and the small matter of the North London derby today – three points for Arsenal would suit those in Red.

Plus, Manchester United take on another team chasing those Champions League places in West Ham, so there is sure to be dropped points that will favour Liverpool.

Then Liverpool will take to the stage on Monday night when they lock horns with a Wolves side that have struggled to get going throughout the campaign.

Even though they are eight points behind the Champions League places, Merson wasn’t ruling out the champions making a late surge.

“I have seen their fixtures,” said Merson. “Just tick away. Tick away, tick away and tick away.

“Go and beat Wolves away then you play Arsenal, hard game, but if you win that then you say ‘right where are we?’.

“They still have a chance for the top four. There is no point looking eight games in advance. Just win your next game and see what happens.

“Chelsea have just drawn. We would have thought that Chelsea would have won that game. Tottenham might drop points against Arsenal and before you know it. Last week’s result is out of the window and they have gained it back already. I still think they have a chance. I really do.”

Perhaps playing in Budapest is the answer for the Reds because that’s two wins and two clean sheets in Hungary for Klopp’s men.

The one big positive Liverpool can take is that they are looking like their old self in the Champions League.

It’s now a case of transcending that form into the Premier League, especially at Anfield where they have lost a remarkable six on the bounce.
