The Spurs midfielder scored in the win over Hull City on Wednesday night.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has admitted, as shown on the club’s official Twitter account, that he rushed to celebrate his goal on Wednesday night with the bench as he has been getting stick for his profligacy from club staff.

Wanyama rounded off the scoring in a comfortable 3-0 win over the Tigers at White Hart Lane last night as he was in the right place to tuck home the rebound from a Christian Eriksen free-kick.

The goal will have come as a big relief for the Kenyan, who missed a good chance against Swansea City and a golden opportunity in the defeat at Manchester United in recent weeks.

In fact, he revealed that he has been getting some pretty brutal stick from Spurs staff for his inability to find the net.

That was why he ran to the bench when he did score in last night’s game, he explained.

Wanyama admitted, as shown on Tottenham’s official Twitter account: “I’ve been having a tough week. My chance against Swansea on Saturday and the chance at United.

“The staff have been giving me stick, they’ve been telling me there’s no point in me going to the goal because I keep on passing to the ‘keeper. Today I was at the right place and managed to score, so I went to the bench to tell them off!”

That was just the defensive midfielder’s second goal since his move to White Hart Lane in the summer, his first coming in the form of a headed winner against London rivals Crystal Palace in the home opener back in August.
