Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has revealed that Hugo Lloris was stressing the importance of protecting their lead, when he got into a heated dispute with Heung-MIn Son against Everton.

Tottenham went into the break 1-0 up, but Lloris was clearly frustrated by Son’s failure to track back in the latter stages of the half.

Son gave up on a loose pass from Lucas Moura, and Lloris called his Tottenham teammate out for a supposed lack of effort.

The Frenchman’s words riled Son, with the pair having to be separated by teammates before going down the tunnel.

But Winks says that the Tottenham pair responded ‘maturely’ after their difference in opinion.

“Hugo was saying about protecting the lead which is important and it was important we didn’t go into half-time at 1-1. It would have changed the whole dynamic,” Winks said.

“It was a valid point and a point that Sonny took on board.

“Of course both players were frustrated with it but they’re two grown men, they’re two adults and they got on with it like mature men.”

Jose Mourinho defended the duo after the match, and suggested he actually wanted to see his Tottenham side demanding more of each other.

Spurs still are not performing anywhere near the top of their game, but they were able to get over the line against Everton.

Tottenham managed to keep an all too rare clean-sheet, as they picked up the three points against the Toffees.
