Tottenham Hotspur remain in the hunt for a new manager, having parted ways with Jose Mourinho back in April.
More than a month has passed since Daniel Levy decided to ditch Mourinho, but he has yet to find his long-term successor.
Last week, fans were send wild as The Athletic reported that talks had begun over a move to bring Mauricio Pochettino back to North London.
Pochettino spent five-and-a-half successful years with Tottenham between 2014 and 2019, turning Spurs into top four regulars, title challengers and even Champions League finalists.
With Spurs in dismal form in November 2019, Levy let Pochettino go – and in January of this year, he made his return to the game with Paris Saint-Germain.
The Argentinian is already being linked with a move away from PSG though, and Spurs would seemingly love to bring him back as Mourinho’s successor.
Now, Spurs midfielder Moussa Sissoko has told Foot Mercato that he has been left ‘surprised’ by the rumours that Pochettino could be coming back.
Sissoko noted that he has no idea who the new manager will be, but understands why Levy would want Pochettino back after his initial success with Spurs.
“Yes, I was surprised to see his name come out in the press,” said Sissoko. “He left the club not too long ago and he signed for PSG not too long ago too. Seeing his name mentioned in the papers, it surprised me a little.”
“But I also tell myself that it’s a bit normal that the chairman can think of him again because he had a good time here and he managed to accomplish a lot of great things. He has placed this club at a position and a level where it had never been. We will see how many names come out. It is possible that none of the coaches listed will come and another will be chosen. We will be attentive to all of this,” he added.
