Tottenham midfielder injured, will miss international friendly.
Tottenham’s Mousa Dembele gestures
Mousa Dembele will miss Belgium’s upcoming international friendly with Finland through injury, newspaper Nieuwsblad report.
Dembele is suffering with a calf injury, and coach Marc Wilmots does not want to risk the Tottenham midfielder ahead of Euro 2016.
He is not the only one to miss out, with Club Brugge right-back Thomas Meunier also struggling with a thigh problem, while Yannick Ferreira Carrasco will not be considered after only playing the Champions League final with Atletico Madrid on Saturday night.
Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany waves to fans as he walks off to be substituted after sustaining an injury
Belgium can ill afford any more injuries, with defenders Vincent Kompany, Nicolas Lombaerts and Dedryck Boyata all out of the tournament.
This increases the pressure on Thomas Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen to stay healthy, with both expected to start the friendly match.
AS Roma’s Radja Nainggolan looks on
Dembele’s absence hands the initiative in midfield to teammates Axel Witsel and Radja Nainggolan, with who he is competing for a place in Belgium’s starting line-up.
He is lacking match practice after missing Tottenham’s end to the season by picking up a six game ban for an incident involving Chelsea striker Diego Costa.
