Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks ruins Arsenal after Sunday defeat

The 13-point gap between Tottenham and Arsenal remains as the latter lost to Newcastle on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has ruined bitter rivals Arsenal after their 2-1 loss to Newcastle when analysing their performance with BeIN Sports, as quoted by the Evening Standard.

Spurs suffered a 3-1 loss to Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday evening, but Arsenal could not reduce the 13-point gap separating the Gunners from fourth-placed Spurs as they were beaten by Newcastle.

The Gunners took the lead against Rafa Benitez’s side, only for two instances of poor defending allowing the Toon to produce an excellent comeback. Ayoze Perez got the better of Shkodran Mustafi for the first, while a loose ball was eventually tucked away by Matt Ritchie.

Winks mocked his rivals’ defending during the loss at St. James’ Park, as well as stating that the defensive lapses have happened numerous times this season in Arsene Wenger’s side.

“The defence was all over the place from Arsenal,” Winks said. “It’s happened quite a few times this season.

“When they switch it on they’re a very good side and you’ve got to respect them in that sense. But teams are playing against Arsenal knowing that they can get a good result. Newcastle were positive, on the front foot and got their win.”

Winks has been in Dubai undergoing specialist treatment on his long-term ankle injury, a problem which has limited the 22-year-old England international to just 770 minutes of Premier League football this season – failing to appear in 2018.

It remains to be seen whether Winks can return before the end of the season, but even if he does, his dreams of achieving a place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad are very much unlikely.
