Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has passed his medical at Schalke, German newspaper BILD report.

The Algerian international will be unveiled on Thursday. The deal is a loan move and Schalke have an option to buy at 19 million Euros – (£16.1m).

Bentaleb is just 21 and is a midfielder with great promise, as seen by the price tag he could eventually leave for, but he fell out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino last season.

With a season on the sidelines beckoning once again, a move away from Tottenham is best for his career, while he also has a chance to try and convince Spurs from afar, that they are making a mistake by discarding him so readily.

The writing was on the wall for Bentaleb when Spurs signed Victor Wanyama this summer, but really after his paltry two Premier League starts last season, he was always going to face an uphill battle in 2016/17 regardless.

At Schalke he will join former Spurs midfielder Benjamin Stambouli, who is set to sign from PSG on a permanent basis.
