The Scotsman admitted he was supposed to talk to Tottenham before he headed to Germany.

It looks as though Tottenham Hotspur are going to miss out on their long-term transfer target Bruma.

The Portuguese winger has long been linked with a move to Spurs from Galatasaray but now it looks increasingly likely that he is set for RB Leipzig this summer.

Portuguese newspaper Record claim he is set to sign for German club Red Bull Leipzig, with a 18 million Euro deal agreed between the two clubs (£15.6 million).

Bruma is scheduled to undergo a medical next week before the transfer is completed.

But while Spurs could see this as a big blow, they could also see it as an opportunity to secure a player they considered signing last summer.

With Bruma heading to Leipzig, Scottish international Oliver Burke is likely to struggle even more for first-team football in Germany.

Last summer he joined the Bundesliga side from Nottingham Forest in a deal reported by the Nottingham Post to be worth around £13 million.

Before making that move he was linked with plenty of English teams, including Tottenham. The player himself even confirmed he was on his way to discuss a move to Spurs before he decided on Germany, telling the Daily Mail:

“I was going to visit Tottenham. But I said no because Leipzig showed enough care and attention to the little details.

“For a young man I don’t want to go somewhere that is a big club but, really, am I going to play? Am I going to progress? Or are they just going to stick me out on loan, which happens a lot at English clubs nowadays.”

He has struggled to adapt in his first season in Germany, starting just five games and with another winger arriving in Bruma he may find himself falling even further down the pecking order.

Tottenham Hotspur might just have the chance to get their hands on the former Forest player a year late, thanks to the transfer of a player they have been watching for a number of seasons.
