Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to sign Dean Henderson, report ESPN.
Henderson is at Manchester United and has been impressing out on loan at Sheffield United.
He is a regular for England’s under-21s and was part of the under-20 World Cup winning side.
The good for Spurs
Henderson has the potential to be an outstanding addition for Tottenham.
Hugo Lloris’ performance for the club over the past 18 months has been concerning, with errors creeping into his game.
He will soon need replacing and Paulo Gazzaniga seems more stop gap than long-term option.
Henderson, 21, could be excellent for Spurs as Lloris’ successor, and he could come in and learn under him.
At Tottenham he would have a more direct route to the first team than at Manchester United, with David de Gea going nowhere.
And the bad
Spurs are far from the only ones interested in Henderson. ESPN report Arsenal, Juventus and Bayern Munich are keen.
Henderson is under contract at United until 2020 and the Old Trafford side have to find a solution. They won’t be keen to sell him this summer, even at a risk of losing him for free in a year’s time.
United’s preference would be to sell abroad and not to a rival.
Tottenham could have had an advantage, potentially pushing for Henderson as part of a cash plus player deal with any negotiation for Toby Alderweireld.
This no longer exists, with Alderweireld’s release clause of £25 million [via The Guardian] giving United no need to negotiate.
