Tottenham need a backup striker through the door this summer, that much is certain, and one man they’re reportedly looking at is Dusan Vlahovic.
The London club don’t have an adequate backup to Harry Kane on the books, and after they reportedly told Benfica they’re not keen on activating Carlos Vinicius’ option to buy, it seems as though they’ll be back in the market for a striker this summer.
Vlahovic is one player who has been linked, and Spurs are seemingly very keen on him.
However, we can’t help but feel like this would be a massive risk, and one that Tottenham need to be wary of.
Now, we’re not saying that Vlahovic is a bad footballer. After all, he’s scored 12 Serie A goals this season and he scored a hat-trick just last week.
However, this is the first season Vlahovic has ever shown any semblance of this type of ability in a top league, and without a number of consistent seasons behind him, it’s hard to judge just how good he is.
Tottenham have fallen into this trap before. They signed Vincent Janssen after he netted 27 goals in the Eredivisie, but that was his first season in that division, and it turned out to just be a prolonged purple patch rather than a true indicator of his talents.

Vlahovic could be the same story, he’d scored six goals in 40 Serie A appearances before netting 12 in 26 this season, and when you’re talking about a player who will reportedly cost a minimum of €50m, you need more than just one good season to judge your decision on.
Of course, Vlahovic could come in and be a massive success, he’s been tipped for big things in the past and even compared to Erling Haaland, but we can’t help but feel that at such a big price and no proven long-term goalscoring record, it would be too big of a risk.
