Sergio Reguilon has been one of Tottenham’s standout performers this season, but his good performances do have a downside.

Indeed, after every solid showing he puts in, there is discussion about Real Madrid potentially activating their buy-back clause, and reports have suggested that they’re keen to have him back one day.

Of course, this would be a big blow for Spurs as Reguilon hasn’t even been at the club for six months, and he’s already established himself as one of the club’s most important players.

However, with that being said, he may not be that big of a miss if he does go.

Losing a talented young left-back is bound to hurt any team, but fortunately for Tottenham, they have another player who fits that description.

Indeed, Ryan Sessegnon may be something of a forgotten man at Tottenham these days, but he’s more than capable of stepping up.

He’s had a shaky couple of years, but with Hoffenheim he’s slowly but surely re-establishing himself as a top talent, and importantly, he’s doing it as a left-back.

There’s been plenty of debate about where Sessegnon is best utilised, Mourinho sees him as a left-back in the future, but he was at his best at Fulham while playing as a left-winger.

The 20-year-old has been utilised more often than not as a left-back this season in the Bundesliga, and he’s shown a completely different side to his game.

Sessegnon was always seen as this marauding attacker with an eye for goal, scoring 16 goals in a single Championship season for Fulham once upon a time, but now he seems to have added a defensive side to his game.

Indeed, his tallies of 1.9 tackles per game and 1.5 interceptions per game this season are career highs for the Englishman, and those numbers aren’t too far off of what Reguilon has been putting up, with 2 tackles and 1.7 interceptions per game.

Sessegnon’s increased defensive output seemingly hasn’t taken away from his attacking prowess either, averaging a goal contribution every 206.3 minutes in the league this season. In comparison, Reguilon is averaging one every 353.7 minutes.

There would be the temptation to panic if Spurs lost Reguilon to Real Madrid, but there’s seemingly no need to worry as Sessegnon looks to have the ability to adequately replace him.
