Tottenham’s Matt Doherty could leave this summer – and Antonio Conte was spotted barking orders at him on Monday.

Doherty’s potential exit feels like something of a surprise.

The Irishman seems to find his form under Conte and racked up two goals and three assists in six Premier League games before a season-ending injury in April.

Tottenham were always likely to target another right wing back to give Conte a more natural option for his 3-4-3 system.

Many will have expected Emerson Royal to be the one to go, but it could end up being Doherty instead.

Tottenham’s Matt Doherty could leave this summer

TalkSPORT reported last week that Doherty has been told that he is free to leave Tottenham.

Conte may well feel that he can mould Emerson into a real wing back whilst Middlesbrough’s Died Spence remains a key target.

That could leave Doherty on the outside looking in, but he has still travelled to South Korea for Tottenham’s pre-season trip.

Tottenham have left the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele at home, so Doherty may not be completely cast aside, but just available if somebody wants him.

Doherty was in action as Tottenham trained out in Seoul on Monday and Conte was spotted shouting orders to Doherty.

The Athletic claim that Conte was seen urging Doherty to move the ball quicker, feeling that he was slowing Tottenham’s play down a little too much.

That kind of thing can happen in pre-season anyway as players work on their sharpness, but it may also be part of the reason Doherty is allegedly available.

Conte will want his wing backs to progress the play quickly and If Doherty can’t quite do that, Tottenham will go and find somebody who can.

That sounds very cut-throat, but Conte wants Tottenham to progress and develop into a real contender and these little things are what could really take Spurs forward.
