Tottenham managerial target tipped to ‘fight for relegation’ if he leaves club

Former Feyenoord assistant Zeljko Petrovic has urged Arne Slot to stay with the Rotterdam club amid reports that Tottenham are interested in hiring the Dutchman as their long-term successor to Antonio Conte.

Speaking to Soccer News, the Montenegrin coach pleaded with the Feyenoord boss to reject any approaches from England in fear of Slot joining a club that could find themselves in a relegation battle, with the 44-year-old currently one of the favourites to take over at Tottenham.

Voetbal International recently reported that Slot has a strong chance at joining Tottenham at the end of the season, with the Dutch manager enjoying a sensational year with Feyenoord, who currently sit top of the Eredivise tables and are set to play AS Roma in the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals.

Indeed, Slot’s stock has been on a meteoric rise this season and it is no surprise why Tottenham could hire the Feyenoord man to take over at north London. However, for Petrovic, the Dutch coach has been urged to stay in Rotterdam and to continue his legacy in the Netherlands.

The former Feyenoord coach said: “What he has done is unprecedented. I am sure there will be nice clubs for him, but Feyenoord is also a nice club. Feyenoord will strengthen with the money from the Champions League. Then Slot can continue here for years to come.

Petrovic added: “He can now go to a club in England, where he has to fight for relegation. Or he can stay at Feyenoord, become another champion and then go to a top foreign club where he plays for prizes. He deserves that.”

Slot should ignore Petrovic and join Tottenham if the chance comes up

Slot has firmly established himself as one of the best young coaches currently working in Europe, with the Dutchman transforming Feyenoord from underachievers to one of the most exciting clubs on the continent. And a move to Tottenham could be sensational for the 44-year-old.

If given the time and money to build his squad, Slot has the potential to take Tottenham back to their former glory and back to the days of Mauricio Pochettino, with the Feyenoord man an ideal candidate to work under Daniel Levy and to thrive in the Premier League.
