The Tottenham Hotspur manager has bought into the Daniel Levy ethos
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the Daily Star about the club’s transfer ethos.
Spurs have spent plenty of money in recent seasons, but when it comes to throwing huge sums at the biggest names in the game the North London club’s chairman Daniel Levy has steered clear.
Pochettino has built a superb squad that pushed Chelsea for the Premier League title this season and only look like improving in the years ahead. However despite casting admiring glances at the best footballers in the world, the Argentine has admitted that is not the Tottenham way.
“We all want £90million players,” Pochettino told the Star. “But it is something I understood when I signed here.
“I understood the project for Daniel Levy. The Tottenham project.”
While Levy has not spent the huge sums of some clubs, he has still dug deep for certain players, some better than others, and more often than not it has been the bargain buys that have ultimately proved to be the more astute.
Dele Alli and Eric Dier arrived at White Hart Lane for relative peanuts while the likes of Victor Wanyama and Christian Eriksen were also signed for cut-price fees when you consider their impact and innate talent.
Tottenham will expect to be busy again in the summer transfer window, and while they will not be challenging for the £90m-plus players any time soon, that does not mean they cannot generate a few of their own the old fashioned way.
