Darren Ambrose has backed Xabi Alonso to become Tottenham Hotspur’s next manager by stating that he would be a ‘good fit’ for Daniel Levy.

The 41-year-old, who played for Liverpool and Real Madrid during his playing days, has taken up his first full-time role in management, and so far, it’s going very well for the Tottenham Hotspur manager target.

Bayer Leverkusen are in the semi-finals of the Europa League where Xabi Alonso will face off against his former manager and one of the best coaches ever in Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

Many names have been tipped to take the Tottenham job for next season, but The Mirror reported in early May that Daniel Levy has Alonso ahead of Julian Nagelsmann.

That would be somewhat of a surprise given that Nagelsmann has been coaching since 2016 and he was recently sacked by Bayern Munich, which many felt was unfortunate, and they have since fallen off the rails.

Nonetheless, former Premier League midfielder and Tottenham-supporting pundit Ambrose, shared his thoughts on Alonso possibly heading to north London, as he told Sky Sports News (06/05/23).

“Xabi Alonso, I think, is a good fit,” said Ambrose. “Looking at him, Bayer Leverkusen, they are in the Europa League semi-final.

“Listening to Kevin Hatchard (European football expert) speaking about it. He said that he would be a good fit. A front-foot manager.”

TOO EARLY FOR ALONSO?

One thing is for sure, the next Tottenham manager will naturally play attack-minded footballer. Levy won’t make that mistake again. He has already done it three times!

That’s what Alonso would bring to the table, but so will the many other managers, from Luis Enrique to Naglemsann.

Going for that young manager has worked before, but Mauricio Pochettino had the experience of being at Southampton before he joined Spurs.

Whilst it’s understandable that Alonso is on Levy’s list, perhaps it’s a little too early for the Spain legend.
