A development regarding the future of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has been reported in the shape of Manchester United hoping to strike a deal for the Denmark international this summer.
The Red Devils are believed to be planning a widespread overhaul of their squad, which has stumbled in recent weeks following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s initial winning run, with the new manager thought to be on the lookout for at least five new arrivals.
According to the Evening Standard, Man United’s interest in Eriksen dates to Louis van Gaal’s tenure at Old Trafford and, with the Dane’s contract expiring next summer and no new deal agreed, they are preparing to rival Real Madrid for his signature in the summer.
Earlier this week, it was reported in The Metro that Tottenham listen to offers “in the region” of £60million for Eriksen, while the Evening Standard’s report suggests that bidding would merely start at £60million as a bare minimum and is likely to be “in excess” of that figure.
Nevertheless, anyone who has followed English football for years will know that Tottenham’s Daniel Levy is a shrewd negotiator to say the least, with Sir Alex Ferguson famously describing negotiations with him – in reference to the Dimitar Berbatov signing – as “more painful than my hip replacement” in his 2015 book Leading.
