Tottenham Hotspur have disappointed in Europe so far this season, and have lost both of their home games in the Champions League.

Spurs left-back Ben Davies refused to blame his side’s unfamiliarity with Wembley Stadium for their poor home form in the Champions League during an exclusive interview with the Hertfordshire Mercury, insisting that Tottenham are capable of playing and winning at any venue in the world.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men slumped to their second home defeat in Europe’s premier competition on Wednesday night against Bayern Leverkusen, and now their hopes of progressing through to the knock-out stages are hanging by a thread.

The 23-year-old Wales international moved to White Hart Lane in the summer of 2014 for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million, but has failed to establish himself as a regular starter for Spurs, playing second fiddle to first-choice left-back Danny Rose.

He spoke to the Hertfordshire Mercury about his side’s poor home form in Europe, and refused to blame the stadium switch for their underwhelming displays so far:

“It’s not for us to blame where we play. We’re professional footballers, we play anywhere in the world at any stadium. At the end of the day it’s 11 v 11 and our performance didn’t merit us getting three points and it’s disappointing. It was a tough night, we didn’t perform like we can and it’s hard to pinpoint anything specifically that went wrong. That’s for the next couple of days where we have to just look at what happened and focus on getting things right.”

While the Champions League problems will surely still be on the minds of Tottenham’s players, their more pressing concern will be on Sunday’s trip to the Emirates to take on fierce rivals Arsenal, where a win could take them level on points with the Gunners.
