The Tottenham Hotspur number two is fiercely loyal to Mauricio Pochettino.

Mauricio Pochettino’s number two Jesus Perez sat down for an exclusive interview with Football.London, and suggested that he has no ambition to leave the Tottenham coaching staff in order to become a manager elsewhere.

The Spaniard, 47, has been right by Poch’s side during the Argentine’s roles in charge of Southampton and Spurs, and he has built a fantastic reputation for himself within the game, as both a hard worker and an extremely knowledgable coach.

Pochettino is widely regarded as one of the best manager’s in world football, but he often admits openly that he would not be able to do what he does without Perez’s help and input in general.

The Tottenham assistant boss sat down for an exclusive interview with Football.London, and suggested that Poch has told him that he can leave if he ever gets the chance to be number 1 somewhere:

“I don’t have any ambition to be number one. I fulfil everything being number two at this level, because to reach this level, wow. I wouldn’t change working with him to be number one elsewhere. He always says to us ‘if one of you wants to be number one’. It’s not my ambition. As soon as one of the staff starts to think they want to be number one, for me, they have to leave the team.”

Tottenham boss Pochettino is banned from the touchline for two games – today’s defeat away at Southampton and their trip to Liverpool in three weeks time, so Perez will get a taste of what it is like to be the main man.

Judging by his comments, however, it doesn’t seem like it will be the start of things to come for the Spaniard.
