Denmark manager Age Hareide worried Spurs fans by commenting on Eriksen’s injury.
Christian Eriksen’s agent has told the Evening Standard that the Tottenham Hotspur star is not suffering with a chronic stomach problem, despite comments from Denmark manager Age Hareide.
Hareide was quoted by BT Sport as saying that the 26-year-old could be suffering from an injury that can become ‘chronic’, with the Denmark international missing Spurs’ last four matches against Watford, Barcelona, Huddersfield and Cardiff.
He said: “Such an injury can be chronic, and it is true that Tottenham also fears that,” which would come as a huge blow to Spurs with the former Ajax start regarded as one of the club’s most important players.
But the 26-year-old’s agent, Martin Schoots, spoke out on the comments surrounding Eriksen, stating that Hareide had been misinterpreted and that Eriksen does not suffer from a chronic problem.
“Some international media have translated Hareide’s words badly,” Schoots said. “Christian has no chronic injuries. He just has an injury related to some fatigue and is having some rest. That is normal because otherwise it would not heal.
“Somebody has not translated well. Christian is doing everything to be back as soon as possible.”
Eriksen was in the form of his life last season, scoring 14 goals and creating another 13 in 47 league and cup appearances for Spurs – but this season he is yet to replicate that kind of form.
Only one goal and one assist in seven games has seen Eriksen struggle this time around. His absence has not stopped Spurs from regaining their form after a little blip, with the club winning their last three league matches.
It remains to be seen if Eriksen will be fit enough to face West Ham United at the London Stadium, with the playmaker unlikely to face Ireland after Hareide’s comments on Saturday.
