Tottenham Hotspur have promised Kieran Trippier an opportunity to win a starting spot.

Tottenham Hotspur have signed Kieran Trippier to a new deal, The Times reports.

In convincing Trippier to sign, head coach Mauricio Pochettino has promised Trippier the opportunity to win a place as a regular starter.

Since signing in 2015 from Burnley, Trippier has been a back-up, but this began to change at the end of last season.

He was used more regularly and Kyle Walker found himself omitted from the line-up for the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Wembley in favour of Trippier.

Pochettino’s pledge underlines Walker’s uncertain future at Spurs, with The Times reporting they are happy to sell him to Manchester City if their high valuation is met.

Tottenham are looking at potential replacements, but Trippier has been assured he will be granted a strong chance at becoming first choice.

Trippier’s contract is five years in length, and he will earn £65,000 per week, more than double his previous wage.

The right-back was called into the England squad this summer for the first time and will want to build on his progress this coming season ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
