Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are among the leading bookies contenders for the West Ham United defender’s signature.

Ladbrokes have made Tottenham Hotspur favourites to sign the West Ham United defender Declan Rice, ahead of Liverpool.

Rice’s West Ham future is currently uncertain, with the Sun reporting on Monday that talks over a new contract have ‘ground to a halt’. The former Chelsea youth team player has less than two years left on his existing deal, said to be worth just £3,000 a week.

And according to the bookies, Tottenham are in pole position to take advantage, with odds of 2/1.

At 3/1, Liverpool are right behind their Premier League title rivals, and ahead of Manchester United (4/1), Arsenal (9/2), Manchester City (6/1) and Chelsea (7/1).

Rice has impressed at both centre-back and central midfield since breaking into West Ham’s first team plans last season – two positions in which Tottenham in particular could be looking to strengthen in the coming transfer windows, amid uncertainty over the futures of Toby Alderweireld (above left) and Mousa Dembele (above right).

Spurs’ rivalry with the Hammers may however prove a stumbling block – and open the door for Liverpool and company to pounce.
