Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara is paying tribute to the ‘unbelievable’ Harry Kane while insisting that he would not even swap England’s record breaker for Barcelona hitman Robert Lewandowski.

He might not have any silverware adorning his mantelpiece. But, what Kane lacks in trophies, he makes up for in the record books.

Just six weeks after replacing Jimmy Greaves as Tottenham’s all-time record goalscorer, he repeated the trick on the international stage. A typically thumping penalty during Thursday’s 2-1 Euro 2024 qualifier victory away at Italy saw Kane overtake Wayne Rooney with a 54th for the Three Lions.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane becomes England’s all-time record goalscorer

“I’ll put it out there; I think he is the greatest striker English football has ever produced,” O’Hara tells talkSPORT (23 March, 10.30pm).

“He’ll get 70 goals for England. He will break the Premier league record. How can we have any negativity whatsoever towards a man who’s got everything?

“What he’s done lasts forever. He is immortal in the game of football. You are always going to remember Harry Kane for what he achieved for Tottenham, for England and in the Premier League.

“That, for me, is bigger than a Premier League title. What he has done is unbelievable, and I don’t think we will see it ever again.”

Scorer of 23 goals in 39 games for Antonio Conte’s vastly-underwhelming Spurs side; Kane is showing no sign of slowing down even as his 30th birthday approaches. With the potential exception of Erling Haaland, O’Hara cannot think of anyone he would replace the Tottenham talisman for, while reiterating his desire for Kane to sign a new deal and bring all the uncertainty surrouinding his future to an end.

“I wouldn’t have Lewandowski over him,” O’Hara adds. “How can you not put him as one of the greatest strikers this country has ever seen? The opinion (that Kane is not world-class) is wrong.

“Of course, I would love him to stay and sign another five-year contract. He won’t go to (Real) Madrid. He wants the Premier League all-time record.”
