Don’t buy into claims Marseille will sign Clinton N’Jie permanently.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Clinton N’Jie faces being an unwanted man this summer with Marseille limiting his playing time in recent weeks.

At the weekend he did not get off the bench, and played just one minute of their previous match. He has not started a game since February, and looks to be firmly on the outside looking in.

Bafetimbi Gomis has returned from injury and with Dimitri Payet a guaranteed starter on the wing, there is little space for the Cameroon international.

N’Jie being marginalised comes amid reports in France reporting last week that Marseille have an option as part of his loan agreement to sign him permanently when his loan ends. [Foot-Sur7 reference L’Equipe]

But just because they have the option, does not mean they will take it.

His lack of usage in recent weeks, and just 10 starts all season, indicates the Tottenham flop will not be a priority.

Marseille have bigger plans, having been taken over by American investors who helped finance Payet’s return.

The Sun reported last month that the French side have £100 million to spend this summer, with The Guardian reporting via L’Equipe the same information just a week ago.

Both reports claim signing attacking players is their priority, making it even harder for N’Jie to get into a team he already cannot find a place in.
