The Spurs keeper kept out Aguero’s penalty when the two Premier League sides locked horns in the Champions League.
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has elaborated on his penalty save against Manchester City in their Champions League quarter-final first leg in midweek.
The all Premier League clash saw Pep Guardiola’s side awarded a spot kick 11 minutes in following a VAR review which penalised Danny Rose after Raheem Sterling’s effort hit his arm in the box.
However, Lloris guessed correctly to save Sergio Aguero’s effort from 12 yards, and in the second half, the hosts took full advantage as Son Heung-min grabbed the only goal of the game.
The France international and 2018 World Cup winner has now saved three penalties in a row for his club side, against Leicester City, Arsenal and now Man City.
Lloris admits he doesn’t know how to explain his recent great record, but he is happy to make the most of it, before going on to explain how he got the better of Aguero on a psychological level.
In conversation with French outlet L’Equipe, he replied to the question of his recent record: “I don’t know… But I want to take advantage of the moment and continue, because, I said, I must stop one for the France team, now.
“It’s still a little psychological, surely. I thought Sergio Aguero might know that on the last two penalties I stopped, I went right, so this time I went left. A goalkeeper must also think that there is a lot of pressure on the shooter.”
Tottenham are back in action this weekend with Saturday’s early Premier League kickoff against Huddersfield Town before travelling to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday for the second leg against Man City.
