Daichi Kamada will receive a Nobel prize – if he decides to snub the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in order to stay at Eintracht Frankfurt.
This might sound completely bonkers but it’s true.
German chemist Benjamin List won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry back in 2021 for ‘the development of asymmetric organocatalysis’, which goes over our heads a little.
Anyway, List was born in Frankfurt and has strong ties to Eintracht; the Bundesliga club presented List with a shirt after his Nobel Prize award win.
List has now spoken up to try and convince Liverpool and Tottenham target Kamada to stay in Frankfurt.
List has been quoted by Sport Bild as saying that he will give his Nobel Prize to Kamada if he snubs the interest from elsewhere.
“Daichi Kamada – if he went, that would break my heart,” said List. “I wanted to take the opportunity today to put my medal on the scales; if he stays, I’ll give it to him,” he added.
How many players in football history have been offered this kind of deal? Kamada now has a rather unique opportunity – as long as he snubs rising Premier League interest.
Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur want Daichi Kamada
Kamada is out of contract at the end of the season and is able to walk away from Frankfurt for absolutely nothing.
Sponichi over in Kamada’s native Japan reported earlier this month that Tottenham are making moves to try and sign Kamada on a free transfer.
Barcelona were also named in that report whilst 90Min claim Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester City are all interested too.
A Premier League move seemed to make perfect sense for Kamada – at least before a Nobel Prize was put on offer to him.
The 26-year-old has racked up 13 goals and five assists in 30 games for Frankfurt this season, continuing to shine as an attacking midfield.
That kind of attacking output will always attract interest, but even more so on a free transfer.
