Speculation about Youri Tielemans joining Arsenal certainly seems to be intensifying, unfortunately for Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Give Me Sport, Tottenham are keen on signing the Leicester City playmaker during the summer months, with The Evening Standard reinforcing their interest earlier in May.

But in recent weeks, their North London rivals certainly seem to be the most likely destination, going by rumours.

The Telegraph reported on Tuesday that Mikel Arteta was strongly encouraging Arsenal to make a move for the Belgium international, who has already decided on a departure from the King Power Stadium this summer.

With a transfer to Manchester United having been ruled out, Spurs and the Gunners seem the two clubs most interested in the 25-year-old, labelled, ‘top, top class’ by Pep Guardiola in 2021.

But according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the player is ‘keen’ on a move to Arsenal.

Ornstein wrote on Twitter yesterday, while linking a more fleshed-out version of the story on The Athletic.

Tielemans joining Arsenal?

Well, that’s what the talk is about, but nothing can be taken as gospel.

Ornstein is certainly a reliable journalist on transfer-related matters and particularly when it comes to Arsenal and Tottenham.

But remember, Tielemans said earlier this year that he wanted Champions League football [talkSPORT] and with Antonio Conte’s side pipping the Emirates Stadium club to a top-four finish last weekend, that’s definitely a factor which could sway his preference.

That’s why Champions League qualification was so vital for Arteta’s side, as a carrot for potential targets.

And it would be devastating for those on the red half of the North London divide if they saw Tielemans, one of their top targets, join Tottenham Hotspur.
