Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing Memphis Depay.
Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer priority should be defensive reinforcements, but Mauricio Pochettino is actually being linked with signing another attacker.
Over the weekend, The Mirror claimed that Spurs are interested in signing Lyon star Memphis Depay, with a £50million fee claimed for the Dutchman’s signature.
Depay may have flopped with Manchester United, but he has starred in France with Lyon, and is already on 11 goals in 14 games so far this season.
Capable of playing out wide or up front, Depay could give Pochettino the versatility that Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura provide – as well as rekindling his relationship with Tanguy Ndombele.
Depay played with Tottenham’s club-record signing for two years at Lyon, smashing 34 goals and 33 assists in all competitions whilst playing alongside Ndombele.
Bringing that link-up to Spurs should be an exciting prospect for fans, and Depay actually talked up their understanding just weeks after Ndombele sealed his move to Tottenham.
Depay told The Mirror that he thinks Ndombele is a ‘wonderful character’, and they pair have a ‘good understanding’ from their two years together at Lyon.
Depay raved about Ndombele, suggesting that he has all the qualities to be a Premier League success, and Spurs fans would surely love to see the pair reunite to cause havoc in England.
“Tanguy is a wonderful character to have in the dressing room and I love him, me and him we have a good understanding of things,” said Depay. “Tottenham should expect a lot from him because he is still very young and if you see how fast he has moved from the second league club to Lyon, and he stayed with us also for short period, but in that period he was very important for us in big games.”
“He has got speed, technique and strength which was the ingredients needed to survive, so I can say he is built to play in the Premier League,” he added back in August.
