Tottenham Hotspur won’t be prising Jamaal Lascelles away from Newcastle United any time soon.

Newcastle United may have been enduring a dismal start to the new season, as they remain without a single win, but they have given fans something to shout about this morning.
The Magpies are desperate for good news after a winless start, and that’s exactly what they have got after Newcastle confirmed on their official website that Jamaal Lascelles has signed a new deal.
Lascelles has penned a new six-year deal until June 2024, committing his future to the club despite their struggles this season and the question marks over Rafael Benitez’s future.
Many thought that Lascelles would be in contention for an England call-up this season but that hasn’t happened yet, and Newcastle’s torrid form hasn’t deterred him from extending his stay at St James’ Park.
The centre back, 24, joined Newcastle from Nottingham Forest in 2014 before immediately heading back to the City Ground on loan, and he has grown into a real defensive leader for the Magpies.
Whilst Newcastle will be ecstatic to see Lascelles extend his stay on Tyneside, but Tottenham Hotspur may be cursing the move, after The Chronicle reported earlier this week that Spurs have been monitoring his situation.

With questions over Toby Alderweireld’s future, Spurs may well have been eyeing up Lascelles as a replacement in 2019, with a January or summer bid possibly in mind for Mauricio Pochettino.
Lascelles being English would have helped Tottenham’s homegrown quota, but unless there is an unannounced release clause in the new six-year deal, the defender seemingly won’t be heading to North London any time soon.
