Tottenham Hotspur reportedly have been offered Dries Mertens.

If rumours are to be believed, Tottenham Hotspur may add to their Belgian contingent this summer.
According to Area Napoli, Spurs have been offered the chance to sign Napoli hitman Dries Mertens, who reportedly won’t be sold for less than £44 million.
The report adds that he would pick up a “guaranteed” £67,000 per week, but the prospect of playing alongside Jan Vertonghen at club level might be a big incentive to join Tottenham.
Mertens is a very big fan of the Lilywhites stalwart, evident by what he said about his Belgium team-mate to RTBF back in May before the World Cup.
The 31-year-old striker singled out Vertonghen as their country’s most gifted footballer, disregarding the likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Mousa Dembele and Romelu Lukaku.
He said: “Everyone is going to think about Eden Hazard,” he said when asked who the Red Devils’ best player was.
“But I’m going to say Jan Vertonghen. He is very technical for someone tall [and playing in a] defensive position.”

It is quite a surprising claim, given the talent that Roberto Martinez’s boasts in his team, but a claim that might not surprise many Tottenham fans.
Vertonghen has been a revelation since joining from Ajax back in 2012. Spurs supporters are well aware of how brilliant he is, and how some fans would love to see Mertens reunite with his international colleagues – Vertonghen, Dembele and Toby Alderweireld – in North London next season.
