The BBC Match of the Day pundits were analysing Spurs’ 2-0 Premier League loss at Chelsea.

There’s no doubting that Tottenham Hotspur have had a week to forget, following up a 2-1 defeat to Premier League strugglers Burnley last weekend with a calamitous 2-0 loss at a Chelsea side that, ahead of kickoff, was deemed in disarray given the fallout from the Carabao Cup final.
Despite the delays over their new stadium and two transfer windows in which they have not signed any players, Spurs had been flying high in the table and, ahead of last week’s Saturday fixtures, were just five points behind then leaders Manchester City and boasting a game in hand.
Now, Tottenham sit nine points behind first-placed Liverpool, eight behind Man City, and Arsenal are catching up on them, with a four-point gap that could be reduced to one depending on the outcome of Saturday’s North London derby (BBC Sport).
With 67 goals in 105 league games for Spurs and 80 goals in 138 appearances in total, including two goals in the 3-1 FA Cup semi-final win against Arsenal at Wembley in 1991 (Scoredraw), Gary Lineker can widely be considered a Lilywhites legend, but even he couldn’t help but poke fun at his former side.

While presenting BBC’s Match of the Day on Wednesday night (27/2, 10:45pm), the 58-year-old said: “Tottenham’s titles aspirations are over for what – five or 10 years?” – a comment that had Arsenal legend Ian Wright laughing.
Spurs will be desperate to get back on track when they host North London rivals Arsenal in Saturday’s Premier League early kickoff, and just three days later they’ll be heading to Germany for the Champions League last-16 second leg against Borussia Dortmund.
