Jonathan Woodgate has claimed that there is ‘something wrong’ if Tottenham target Djed Spence isn’t a Premier League player next season, as he told BBC Sport.

Football London reporter, Alasdair Gold, recently reported that Tottenham’s director of football, Fabio Paratici, was scouting the on-loan Nottingham Forest right-back in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Well, the 21-year-old certainly put on a performance for his side and those watching, as Forest thrashed Leicester City 4-1, with Spence getting on the scoresheet.

Antonio Conte was seemingly looking for a right-sided wing-back during the January transfer window, but a bonafide player for that spot didn’t arrive.

There’s no doubt that the north London club will go again to try and add much-needed quality to that spot in the summer, and a player like Spence, whose parent club is Middlesbrough, would be a top-quality purchase.

Former Spurs defender Woodgate, who watched Spence in action yesterday, certainly liked what he saw from the attack-minded player.

“That’s another £10m on Djed Spence’s price tag,” said Woodgate.

“What a performance by him. If Spence isn’t a Premier League player next season, there is something wrong.

One thing is for sure, Spence certainly fits the bill for what Conte would want for that wing-back role.

Not just against Leicester, but against Arsenal in the FA Cup also, he danced up and down the right flank with absolute ease.

Added with Spence driving up and down the flanks, he also has a touch of arrogance to his game and he doesn’t mind throwing in a few flicks and tricks to embarrass his opponent.

He showcased that against a European-chasing Premier League side, and if Paratici was indeed watching, then he has to be impressed.
