The Spurs icon, speaking on Sky Sports show Goals on Sunday, let a rude word slip while praising the Arsenal youngster.
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov has admitted that he is quite fond of Matteo Guendouzi’s footballing talent.
However, while talking about the Arsenal teenager on a Sunday morning show, the 37-year-old let a rude word slip, which earned him a ticking off from the presenter.
Guendouzi, 19, has impressed since arriving at the Emirates Stadium in a deal believed to be worth around £7m (according to Transfermarkt) from French Ligue 2 side Lorient in the summer.
The midfielder already has 20 appearances in all competitions for Unai Emery’s side, including eight Premier League starts, and has put in some solid, mature displays for his new club.
Indeed, Guendouzi has already become a fan favourite among sections of the Gunners supporters, as evidenced by some Twitter comments such as these:
Berbatov, speaking on Sky Sports show Goals On Sunday, said of Guendouzi: “He’s 19 but he’s playing like he’s been there forever.
“Sometimes I’m watching him like I want to be against him because he’s p*****g me off with the confidence he has.”
At which point, presenter Ben Shepherd stopped the former Spurs man abruptly, told him he “can’t say that” and apologised to viewers for the guest’s language.
Berbatov, at Tottenham between 2006 and 2008, said sorry and continued by saying: “He’s so confident on the ball and he’s everywhere on the pitch. I’ve watched him. He’s in the box, running out without problem.”
With a contract until June 2022 and plenty of time to develop further, it looks as though Guendouzi is on track to win many more plaudits from his fans – and possibly more complimentary curse words from his peers.
