Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has worked wonders during his time in charge at White Hart Lane.
Spurs legend Ledley King
Spurs legend Ledley King was interviewed as part of NBC‘s documentary covering the club’s move to their new 61,000 capacity stadium, and he delivered his verdict on the current job being done by Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine has has earned high praise for the manner in who he has gone about his business at White Hart Lane, with his side currently sitting in second position in the Premier League table, albeit a distant 10 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.
He hasn’t been immune from criticism, however, after his side fell to third in the Premier League table last season, allowing their fierce rivals Arsenal to surpass them on the final day.
Then there was their woeful Champions League performances, which eventually led to them failing to navigate a safe passage through to the knockout stages.
But King believes that Pochettino deserves nothing but credit for the job he has done during his two-and-a-half year tenure in North London, and told NBC‘s documentary makers why he feels he is one of the best in the business:
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
“He [Pochettino] has exceeded expectations at this early stage. He works the team very hard but at the same time he’s someone who will give young players a chance. You will see him with his arm around players coming off the training pitch whether you’re the most experienced player in the team or a young player with your first training session with the first team. And I think that’s great.”
For Pochettino to be considered as truly one of the world’s greatest managers, however, he will have to start winning things on a consistent basis, which will be no easy task, what with the limited spending power at his disposal.
But with the stadium move edging ever closer, their financial position will strengthen, and maybe then will be the time when it is fair to judge the Argentine.
