The Tottenham Hotspur striker has endured criticism from some sections of the media recently.

When speaking exclusively to talkSPORT, Tottenham legend David Ginola highlighted a problem with Harry Kane’s game, suggesting that he contributes little to his team aside from scoring.

The 24-year-old striker has been in good form for Spurs this season, scoring 37 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions thus far, but he seems to have struggled recently, especially after his return from injury.

The controversy that surrounded his appeal to take a goal away from his teammate Christian Eriksen against Stoke a couple of weeks ago certainly has not helped matters, and he must find a way of silencing the critics, especially with a World Cup with England just around the corner.

Ginola, who made 127 appearances for the Lilywhites, explained how Kane’s impact on his team is limited when he is not scoring goals, when speaking exclusively to talkSPORT:

TV pundit David Ginola looks on before the Barclays Premier League match between Swansea City and Newcastle United at the Liberty Stadium on December 4, 2013 in Swansea, Wales.

“The main problem with Harry Kane is, when he is not on the goal sheet, his impact on the game with his team is not as relevant as what it was before. If he doesn’t score, he doesn’t have the same impact upon the team. If you take [Diego] Maradona, Ronaldinho… they were the most skilful players around – they could do things with the football other professional players could only dream about. Harry Kane is not capable of doing things like Messi and Ronaldo do with a football, in terms of his quick feet.”

Ginola’s words seem a little harsh on the England international, considering just how much he has done for his team over the past few years.

Tottenham need five points from their remaining three games to secure a place inside the top four this season, and if they are to do just that, Kane will have to be at his very best over the course of the next few weeks.
