The Argentine believes his compatriot will continue to be linked with other jobs but does not think Spurs fans should be worried.
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ossie Ardiles has insisted that he and Spurs fans should not be worried by reports linking Mauricio Pochettino with Real Madrid, as quoted by FourFourTwo.
A report in the Mirror this week suggested that Pochettino is a leading candidate to take the Bernabeu job if Real decide to move away from current boss Zinedine Zidane in their efforts to win a first La Liga title since 2012.
Pochettino is one of the most highly sought-after managers in world football at the moment, as a result of his big success first at Southampton and now at Spurs.
He led the former to the top eight of the Premier League not long after they won promotion, and has overseen the latter’s development from top-seven competitors to genuine title challengers.
As a result, he has been linked with a host of top jobs such as those at Manchester United and now Real, but his compatriot Ardiles does not believe there is reason for Tottenham to be worried.
The Spurs legend said, via FourFourTwo: “It’s not the biggest worry. Of course he’s a man in demand because he’s doing an incredibly good job with Tottenham and long may it continue. But the press say a lot of things. Only last season he was linked with Manchester United.
“In fact, I talked to Mauricio three or four days later and he said: ‘Look, they said I am going to Manchester United and that my agent said I am going to sign for Manchester United. You know what Ossie? I don’t even have an agent!’ This is what Mauricio Pochettino is, he’s completely different.
“When the Argentina national team was looking [for a new coach], definitely he was one of the favourites, but he was not involved at all. He said he was not interested and so on. He’s incredibly happy at the club and I hope he continues for a long time.”
Spurs fans will be hoping that their former hero is right about them not having to worry about losing their manager.
Pochettino is essential to what Tottenham are trying to achieve, and it is imperative that he remains at White Hart Lane if they are to establish themselves as regular and genuine title challengers.
