Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Adebayor and Chamakh

Tottenham started their Premier League campaign with defeat after succumbing to Newcastle at St James Park. In what was always going to be a difficult encounter Spurs found themselves 1-0 down to a delightful finish from Demba Ba in the second half before Jermaine Defoe carried on where he left off on England duty by bundling home an equaliser. However, after a looking like holding out for a draw Spurs conceded a late penalty when Hatem Ben Arfa was tripped by Aaron Lennon. The French international dusted himself off and tucked away the penalty to condemn Andre Villas Boas to an opening day defeat, match report from BBC Sport.

In what looks like being the end of one of the summers longest running transfer saga’s Spurs finally seem set to agree a deal to bring Emmanuel Adebayor to White Hart Lane permanently, according to Daily Mail. The former Togo international had a highly successful loan spell at Spurs last season but has so far seen a deal collapse under the weight of his wage demands this summer. In what will be a £6million it is believed the former Arsenal forward has agreed to a paycut and will be looking to link up with the in-form and AVB backed Jermaine Defoe sometime this week.

The Daily Mail is one of various sources that report Spurs are lining up a shock loan deal for Arsenal striker Maraoune Chamakh. The Moroccan outcast has been unceremoniously shoved down the pecking order at The Emirates with the arrivals of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud this summer and is available on a loan deal. Spurs face competition from Fiorentina and Blackburn for the striker although according to The Metro, AVB is not at all interested in the former Bordeaux marksman and has rubbished the reports.

Sky picks up on Adam Johnson’s future with the England international increasingly becoming an apparent target for AVB. After impressing for England against Italy many clubs are pursuing the winger’s signature as Roberto Mancini looks to finalise a deal for Swansea winger Scott Sinclair. However it believed Spurs, along with Everton, Liverpool and Lazio will fall short of signing the winger who is instead expected to return to the North East with Sunderland.

It is also being reported by Sky Sports that Italian defender Marco Perotta is being chased by Spurs. The 18-year-old plays for newly promoted Pescara, and his agent confirmed that Tottenham are monitoring him.

Whilst the Daily Mail continue their extensive coverage at the Lane today with news of Andre Villas Boas beating off competition from Manchester City for the coveted signing of young Israeli midfielder Nir Biton. Biton impressed whilst on trial at City this summer but their apparent stalling over a deal has seen Spurs steal the march and bring in the player likened to Patrick Vieira from FC Ashdod.
