Harry Kane has cut a more subdued presence in training since Daniel Levy blocked the striker from leaving Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, per the Daily Mail.
The England captain believed he had a gentleman’s agreement with the Spurs Chairman to allow him to leave north London. Kane spoke with Levy over his desires to further his career elsewhere when Manchester City showed interest the previous summer.
Levy firing Jose Mourinho in April did not ease his stance, either, with Kane unimpressed by Tottenham’s change in manager. Now, the 28-year-old is on his latest head coach in Nuno Espirito Santo, but feelings of dejection or betrayal by Levy are unlikely to have reduced.
The lengthy transfer saga he and Tottenham endured this summer has seemingly affected Kane’s start to the season. The striker has struggled to make a notable impact in the Premier League and his only goals, so far, have come in the Europa Conference League.
The 64-cap international netted a brace against Pacos de Ferreira in the second-leg of their qualifying tie last month. Kane’s league struggles have also been so severe that Liverpool centre-half Joel Matip has taken more touches in the opposition penalty area this season.
Kane is not necessarily moping about his failed transfer, but some at Tottenham’s training ground have noticed he has cut a more subdued presence since returning this summer. The Spurs product is far from the chipper shelf he was previously before this year’s events.
Will Levy regret blocking Kane from leaving Tottenham?
Levy will hope Kane bounces back from his transfer misery and rediscovers the form he has shown with Tottenham previously. Nuno’s men are massively struggling in front of the net and need their talismanic striker firing on all cylinders soon.
But part of the problem in training may stem from the attacker’s attempts to leave north London this summer. Eurosport reported in August that Kane said goodbye to Tottenham’s staff and players at the end of last term. So strong was his belief his future was elsewhere.
If that is true, then Kane may feel awkward around people he told he was leaving. Giving reason to why the Tottenham star has not been the same chipper self in training this term.
