Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign River Plate winger Julian Alvarez – and he has now been hailed yet again having shown his quality in Argentina.
Calciomercato reported last week that Tottenham are now looking to sign Alvarez in 2022. That could be in January, it could be at the end of the season, but Fabio Paratici is keen.
Aston Villa, AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich are also thought to be interested with Alvarez making strides.
The winger bagged a superb brace against bitter rivals Boca Juniors last week, which only enhanced his reputation.
Alvarez, 21, has now racked up 11 goals and 11 assists in his last 35 games for River.
An Argentina international who won Copa America over the summer, Alvarez looks set for stardom.
Tottenham may have to see him join forces with international teammates Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso – and Alvarez is earning huge praise.
Tottenham target Alvarez hailed by Batista
Fernando Batista, the director of Argentina’s Under-20 side and Olympic team, has raved about Alvarez.
Speaking to TyC Sports, Batista has suggested that Tottenham target Alvarez has ‘a lot to give’ on the pitch. Batista even noted that he is in love with how Alvarez plays.
Batista added that he wants Alvarez to stay at River, rather than head away amid Tottenham’s interest.

Batista believes River Plate are now Alvarez and 10 other players, and one more step forward in his game will prepare him well for a move.
“I am not surprised about Julián,” said Alvarez. “Let it be understood: I am in love with his game in every way. He has a lot to give. He is a very intelligent boy.”
“First, there are situations. It depends on what is on the table. I would like him to be able to play a little more in our football. Not only Julián, but many players of that age. Argentine football is difficult. He is gaining continuity in this league.”
“Marcelo was leading him little by little. Now you listen to the formation: it is Julián and ten others. It helps him gain experience. He still needs one more plus to later hit the jump,” he added.
