Well, Tottenham Hotspur apparently have another player on the wounded list.
Alasdair Gold of Football London wrote on Thursday, after the Lilywhites’ defeat at Chelsea, that Joe Rodon is injured.
According to Gold, who exclusively covers Tottenham, the Wales international missed the League Cup outing at Stamford Bridge due to a rib problem.
And for Spurs, it’s even more bad news for manager Antonio Conte.
With Cristian Romero also injured, the Italian trainer genuinely cannot afford to be losing central defenders.
Eric Dier missed the Chelsea clash through illness and, as he proved in West London, Japhet Tanganga is somewhat erratic in the middle of defence.
Rodon, a £15 million signing by Jose Mourinho, is a towering, powerful defender and an option that Conte could really use – particularly this weekend.
Tottenham are gearing up to welcome Morecambe in a third-round FA Cup encounter.
And the former Juventus and Chelsea manager would’ve wanted to field a fringe starting lineup, to keep Dier – who is available – and Davinson Sanchez as fresh as possible.
But with Romero absent and Rodon carrying a rib injury, Conte has to field at least one of his strongest available central defenders against a League One outfit.
Remember, Tottenham have two Premier League games in hand [three over some outfits] and therefore the 52-year-old coach would’ve been desperate to use periphery players tomorrow.
Rodon could’ve come in handy.
