According to The Daily Mirror (print edition, 12/8; page 56), Tottenham Hotspur are about to complete the signing of Joao Palhinha, a player new head coach Nuno wanted at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
What’s the story?
The Daily Mirror (print edition, 12/8; page 56) have reported that Tottenham are poised to complete the signing of Palhinha from Sporting Lisbon in the summer transfer window.
Spurs will reportedly bring the 26-year-old defensive midfielder in a cut-price deal.
Nuno, who was appointed the Tottenham head coach earlier this summer, wanted to sign his Portuguese compatriot when he was in charge of Wolves.
Would Joao Palhinha make Tottenham better?
Midfield is not a department that Tottenham are really lacking in bodies.
A quick look at Spurs’ current squad would tell you that.
However, while Nuno has a number of options, he could do with better quality in that department.

Palhinha is a very capable defensive midfielder who is going to hit his peak in two or three years’ time.
This means that the defensive midfielder’s best years are ahead of him.
It remains to be seen what the ‘cut price’ actually is, but the Portugal international would be a good signing for Spurs.

Moreover, Nuno reportedly wanted Palhinha at Wolves.
This means that the Spurs head coach will know what to expect from his Portuguese compatriot and will know how to get the best out of him.
Palhinha made 28 starts and four substitute appearances in the Portuguese league for Sporting last season.
