Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has indicated that talks over a new contract for veteran goalkeeper Hugo Lloris have begun.
Whilst Tottenham fans naturally want new signings in this January transfer window, they also need to sort out the future of Lloris.
The French goalkeeper is out of contract at the end of the season and is able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement now.
Lloris has been with Tottenham for almost 10 years now having joined from Lyon way back in the summer of 2012.
There will be a fear that Tottenham end up losing Lloris because his contract still hasn’t been sorted out.
Lloris believed to be interested in heading to Major League Soccer whilst Nice – the Tottenham star’s former club – want him back.
Tottenham don’t need telling twice that they need to sort this situation out.
Now, Tottenham boss Conte has told The Independent that thinks the club have now started to talk to Lloris about a new deal.
Conte talked up Lloris, branding him a ‘top goalkeeper’ with ‘great experience’, higgling his importance to Tottenham.
Conte pretty much made it abundantly clear that he wants Lloris to stay at Tottenham – and is now ‘very confident’ that’s agreement will be reached.
“I think so, I think that they have started to talk,” said Conte. “You know very well what I think about Hugo. Also previously I spoke and said that he’s our captain, he is a top goalkeeper for us, he has great experience.”
“He knows very well Tottenham. He loves this shirt and this badge. For me he is an important player and I’m sure that they are going to find a solution for him to continue to play with Tottenham. I think and I repeat because I am not the person that speaks to renew the contract with the players. There is the club and the people that do this. But for sure I am very confident about this situation to be positive,” he added.
