The Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield Wednesday players were teammates at Celtic.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Victor Wanyama is among those who have sent messages to Sheffield Wednesday’s Gary Hooper after the former Celtic striker provided an update on his injury lay-off on Instagram.
Hooper has failed to appear for Wednesday’s first team since Boxing Day 2017 and, according to his manager, will not return until 2019 at the earliest.
Unbeknown to many, the 30-year-old underwent surgery this week, and posted afterwards:
Responding to Hooper on Instagram, Wanyama, who played alongside the former Tottenham youth team player for two years at at Celtic, wrote: “Get well soon bro @hoop588“
Meanwhile, the former Sheffield Wednesday striker, Nile Ranger, replied with a praying hands emoji.
Hooper and Wanyama won two league titles apiece at Celtic, before their departures for Norwich and Southampton, respectively, in the summer of 2013.
Hooper later found his way to Sheffield Wednesday, for whom he signed permanently in January 2016 – six months prior to Wanyama’s £11 million Tottenham move.
The former non-league striker is out of contract at Hillsborough at the end of this season.
